The body

That wonderful mysterious vehicle that brings us into life. This entity of flesh, blood, mind and soul is the starting point of the works of the students from VAV, department of moving image of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie.

The topic of the body is appoached from many different angles.  To mention a few, there is the awareness that these days our bodies are extended with technical equipment like smart phones and tablets, alluding to the almost futuristic vision of the human as a cyborg or even no longer living on earth. Other times the body is seen as the location where emotions are expressed, by movement or dance. Or we realize that we all are this vulnerable and fragile object in need of nursing and love in order to grow up.
