Followed by the eye, the spectacles of a grandfather become a ‘wormhole’, a window on what we see now, what has been seen then and still should be shown.
Students of VAV dive into the archives of the ‘eye’, both literally and figuratively. Guided by the theme ‘Magnify – Magnifying’, they allow their cameras and edits to grope the realm of the avant-garde, thus creating their own experimental screen.
Family matters, swimming suits, at the sea, on the waterfront, spectators on tour behind the iron curtain, holiday sounds, glasses, drinking, lip & foot & fingerprints luring us into a sometimes-enigmatic world. On the screen and off-screen, crawling girls in skin coloured cat suits, showing body parts through wide angles, zooming in zooming out, capturing their skin and …or was that my sleeve?
Reality or past, the eye moves, following the light, peering in the dark, what is there to come? Right now, grains and pixels that will try to move you.
